PR Newswire published this article http://news.prnewswire.com/ViewContent.aspx?ACCT=109&STORY=/www/story/06-02-2009/0005036961&EDATE expressing concerns for the video search results content filter in Bing, which has video preview built into the results. There is some concern from parents and businesses about the video preview of restrictive content.

A few things to be aware of with filtering video results in Bing:

  • The Default is to Block Access to adult content.
  • The Default settings are more rigorous than Google in that Bing will not show image/video results for adult content queries (vs. Google who will).
  • A user must proactively TURN OFF safesearch (changing from default of MODERATE or more restrictive STRICT mode) in order to access adult content.
  • If a user changes safesearch settings to OFF they have access to more Web content. This is the same for Google, Yahoo, and other search providers as it is with Bing.

Companies which are concerned that some users will Disable Adult filter:

  • Corporate administrators can append the parameter ”&adlt=strict“ to all queries to the Bing.com domain which will override any manual settings users have changed. This will enforce strict search filters on all the machines at the corporate domain level.
